Charlotte Gainsbourg – “Paradisco” (feat. Beck)

If you haven’t heard of Charlotte Gainsbourg yet, allow me to fill you in: she’s an accomplished musical artist, an incredibly talented actress (watch Antichrist and you’ll see what I mean), and she not only lived from a cerebral hemorrhage, she fucking rebounded into an even greater level of accomplishment.  Her second LP, Stage Whispers, is getting ready to be released and here’s the record’s first single, “Paradisco”, a pleasantly simple and very danceable electro-pop track written and produced by Beck.  Jump away.

Watch Kanye West & Jay-Z Perform at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

Mere hours ago one of the most wonderful events of the year took place–the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show–and much to my chagrin, CBS decided to let a musical act interrupt the sexiness yet again.  Though, they did pick some heavy hitters to steal the spotlight away from the real stars of the night; Kanye West, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, and Maroon 5 all graced the stage to perform some of their hottest tracks.  Kanye hit the stage first and gave a very tight-jeaned 1992 performance of “Stronger” then was joined by a leisure suit wearing Jay-Z to spit out “N*ggas in Paris”.  It was hyped up but I’m not sure I’m going to get over interrupting the sexy.  Seems like a pretty unforgivable decision as far as I’m concerned, but alas, I figure I should give you guys the chance to check out the show.  Also, I’m pretty sure there are at least a couple candid shots of those so, so, so beautiful models in there, so that’s a plus.  Jump and enjoy.

Okkervil River – “It Is So Nice to Get Stoned” (Ted Lucas Cover)

A couple of days ago, Okkervil River released a mini-LP of covers called Golden Opportunities 2.  The five-track record has a few re-imagined songs from a host of classic songwriters such as Ted Lucas, Jim Sullivan, and the Triffids just to name a few, and oh, I forgot to mention, the band’s giving the damn thing away in its entirety for free over at their website.  So, yeah, that’s pretty cool.  Okkervil’s rehashed version of Ted Lucas’s “It Is So Nice to Get Stoned” is available for you to listen to after the jump.  Enjoy.

Watch All 10 Bon Iver Short Films

I wrote not long ago about the impending release of the deluxe edition of Bon Iver’s infinitely successful self-titled record and now, Jagjaguwar has released it for public consumption.  Included with the specially released album are 10 short film/videos directed to accompany each track on the record in their own unique ways.  The actual quality of the videos is sort of up for debate but they’ve each got their own new age thing going on and they’re worth a watch.  A host of directors took shots at creating these including Isaac Gale, David Jensen, and the man himself, Justin Vernon.  Each of the videos is available at Bon Iver’s channel on YouTube and because I love you all, they’re also posted after the jump.  You’re welcome.

Silversun Pickups – “Seasick”

Here’s the newest single from Silversun Pickups called “Seasick” off the Black Friday-released Seasick 10 EP.  It’s in the mold of a lot of their more toned-down tracks–breathy vocals on top of sparse, atmospheric guitar parts until the super distortion rolls in and the emo rolls out.  I think the casual fan may enjoy this release a little more than the seasoned listener, but, hell, what do I know?  Jump away.

Bon Iver – “Hinnom, TX” (Video)

Here’s the accompanying video to “Hinnom, TX” from the deluxe edition of Bon Iver, Bon Iver set to be released tomorrow (11/29).  Not a whole lot going on except some rolling panoramic shots of various countryside/road landscapes, but it still works.  There’s something about juxtaposing Bon Iver’s sound on the latest record with natural environments that just seems right.  Jump away.

Take Away Show – Stornoway

Oh, how I love the sound of freak folk in the morning.  Stornoway is a fairly prototypical example of a freak folk outfit and a perfect fit for La Blogotheque’s Take Away Show series.  Here they perform their track “When You Touch Down from Outer Space” in a cozy Paris park while in town for the Pitchfork Music Festival.  The song’s a sing-a-long type of track that would make David Bowie so proud (or at least Major Tom).  Jump and enjoy.  P.S.  I’ve never seen a singer look so much like a vampire (i.e. Edward Cullen).

The Weeknd – “The Knowing” (Video)

Here’s the first “official” video from the Weeknd for “The Knowing” off the House of Balloons mixtape.  A bunch of (apparently) unofficial sets of visuals have hit the internet for tracks from the The Weeknd, but alas, this one is the real deal and it’s a pretty fine effort.  A fairly intense sci-fi battle of the sexes is highlighted here with time-traveling, crotch lasers, and just a general omnipresent sexiness.  I approve.  Jump and enjoy.

The Rapture – “Sail Away” (Video)

The Rapture’s new video for “Sail Away” is just oozing with awesome.  Besides for a track that by itself reminds me of every time I’ve ever eaten hallucinogenic mushrooms, the video does a fairly good job of communicating a certain wackiness to the screen…there’s just something about riding a giant bag of potato chips that just touches my inner-fatass.  I’m sure there’s also some slightly veiled critique of people and big business’s effect on the environment, but that’s really kind of not fun, so I just like to visualize a big ‘ol bucking bag of Lay’s and enjoy the ride.  Jump away.

North Highlands – “Benefits” (Video)

There is something truly ethereal about Brenda Melvi’s vocal-stylings.  She’s nurturing the long heralded manner of sweetly-emo singing in the absolute best way possible–by rocking the shit out of it.  She doesn’t command the room like the ginger brass section (and I say that in the most loving way possible) Florence Welch but she does demand a certain degree of attention.  So much so that using her as the sole anything in the video for “Benefits” doesn’t seem like such an outrageous enterprise.  In fact, it works.  Jump and enjoy.
